Can conflict end? (a new song in the family, and a young pup)

Hello! It's been a while. So many spores of thought, of doing, of feeling and living have moved around us in these parts. A catch up post is imminent. However, in the meantime, we have a little sharing to offer. This mid summer has seen the birth of a new song in the family. We sing and play it here, juxtaposed with 1950s super8 footage of family taken by Patrick's grandfather, Fred Jones. It shows a post war time when life was less hectic and far less mediated. It's a peace song. The lyrics recognise that each of us has work to do to bring about peace and end war. Physical war. Ideological war. It’s a reminder song, for us, and anyone else who finds resonance with it. By not giving power to those who construct conflict and by recognising the conflict we create within ourselves that feeds external conflict in our homes, communities and beyond, is for us the dance of consciousness. This song was first inspired by Krishnamurti's book of the same name. Oh, and this is Lilly Pilly, laying beside Krishnamurti. She's the newest mammal member of the family. More about her another time. So, without further ado, here is Can conflict end? written by Patrick, edited by Meg and featuring the vocals of Patrick, Meg and Woody, alongside Patrick's blackwood wattle guitar finger picking and Meg's pear wood recorder playing. Gratitude, in advance, for your deep listening.

Here is the audio-only version. [audio m4a="https://artistasfamily.is/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Can-conflict-end_-Master.m4a"][/audio]   We welcome your comments, Dear Reader. What came up for you while listening and/or watching?

A beautiful song with a very important message. We need to own peace in all aspects of our lives, from the home and beyond. I love the super8 footage. Different times, but not without conflict.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Love that new pup.

    1. Thanks Alison. Indeed, not without conflict.❤️

Happy on reflecting that a running race held in “contemporary Australia;” – today- would have a kaleidoscope of ethnic & cultural diversity competing & cheering, in contrast with the race held on you’re footage, In the post war times….

So good to see smiling faces & the blokes “taking over” the cooking 🙂

        1. True Guy, plus body type diversity and gender diversity, 72 genders apparently. To think back then almost all kids would have run, today only about 30% would be well enough in their bodies or minds to participate. Progress!

I really loved this song and the video so much. I found myself replaying it to so many times to concentrate on the thought provoking words. So many stand out lines. If we could all be ‘free from the labels, the ego, the me’ and ‘peace in our hearts, open to love, easy to speak but harder to grasp’. WOW!!! I wish everyone on the planet could listen to this song.
Thank you Meg, Patrick and Woody👏👏👏👏
        Love the new baby🩷

        1. Thanks so much Jan, that’s a whole lotta love. So appreciated 🙏🏽

Times at the moment seem so unreal and unreasonable that it is difficult not to elevate these ok’d days – because we just do t see the pain the people in the S8 clips and all the rest of the world has gone through.
Yet I always envy the common simple lifestyle and the easy ways to create happiness from not much at all.

    1. Thanks Ellen, memory can be painful and therefore memory can produce conflict. These happy, simple times at the beach in the 1950s may produce nostalgia, which in turn causes separation from the what is of now, which in turn produces more conflict.

Good to see you back online. Loved the song and the old footage, they both go together well.
And the new pup looks cute.

    Can conflict end?
I see the same archetypes playing out inside me as I do in my communities and on the world stage. Through deep listening and acceptance I’ve found the courage to dance too.
I would like to share a peace offering of my own, my dear friends, a song and a step:

    1. Wow, Joshua. Your song is so beautiful, brother. Such a rare blend of easy listening and dissonance, simple and complex, direct and magical. We so appreciate you sharing it here and we’re enjoying the other offerings on the album. Love and respect!
