Our dear old dog, Zero, took his final breath yesterday afternoon. We buried him this morning. He has been our trusty and beloved dog-kin for 15 years. He has always been fully in life, showing up everywhere; in the home food forest,

at the community garden,

on long haul bicycle adventures,

not missing any of the birthdays,

down on the coast,

when we went to catch some fish,

on our laps as we went through the many harvest seasons,

at Forest & Free on Mondays as we built more huts in the village,

by the fire recovering from dog attack,

with friends who lived with us,

and friends who dropped in,

on walks in the commons, checking on the Bill Mollison memorial oak tree,

with family at special moments in our lives,

with the goats in the old quarry,

in the outdoor kitchen teaching the youngster how to clean up during a slaughtering day,

on the outdoor couch, eldering youngster Lilly Pilly and passing on the household’s dog-kin culture,

in our arms growing old together,

and finally, this morning, the elder under the elder.

Farewell little dog. You have taught us so many things. Your spirit and your soul live on in us, and in the garden.
What a beautiful tribute. He clearly had a wonderful and loving life. Rest in peace, Zero. 🌻
Thanks Ruby! 🙏🏽
I’m so sorry for your guys loss, Meg, Patrick and Woody. It’s not easy to lose one’s dog kin. By the looks of it, Zero had a good life. Our thoughts are with you guys during this time.
Oooh Zero, you will be missed.. so many beautiful adventures you had and I’m grateful that I got to know you my little friend. He was a very spirited being.. Beautiful memories dearest family 💛 sending much love from us and our four legged kin-spirits to TreeElbow xx
Thanks Marta, glad you got to live with him for several months, and with us. Who would have thought back then he would ever stop licking our wounds, cleaning up the used dinner plates and falling asleep on our laps. Life is precious.
Thanks Tash! ❤️

A lovely tribute to Zero. Photo 3 is how I remember your spritely companion, sitting happily atop your 2 wheeled stead. He lived his best doggo life with you.
Thanks Michelle, he was at the height of his powers back then.
I´m sorry for your lost Patrick, Meg, Woody and Zephyr. I remember the first time i saw Zero in one of your family music videos hunting a rabbit. What a good friend it looks! Keep strong !
Thanks Tiago! Haha, yes, he was a bit past his hunting prime in that video. The rabbit went one way and Zero, the other.
Our noble teachers.
Absolutely ❤️
I’ve had such a special place in my heart for Zero, as he so very closely resembled our own dear Jack Russell, Tyler Bean, who was also with us for 15 years (though he was on the earth for 17!). Such a beautiful tribute to such a beloved member of your family…thank you for sharing him with us.
Thanks Melanie and family. Oh, Tyler Bean ❤️

thank you for a beautiful tribute to Zero a doggy friend I will miss
Dear God,
Thank You for the gift of Zero,
a little dog who brought so much love, joy, and laughter.
You care about every part of our lives,
and You know the sadness we feel now.
Please comfort this family as they grieve.
Hold them close and wipe away their tears.
Remind them of the happy memories of Zero,
the cuddles, the wagging tail, and the fun times shared.
Help them feel Your peace in their hearts.
Thank You that You care for all Your creation,
and You see their pain.
Let Your love bring healing,
and may their hearts be filled with hope
until they meet again in the joy of Your presence.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Sorry for your loss, Meg, Patrick & Woody! Your photographic tribute conveys what a good life Zero lived. A life many urban dogs would envy. And such a big spirit inside such a little dog – a spirit that endures, no doubt, even as you miss him.
Thanks Shane 🙏🏽
Sending so much love to you all, and to Zero’s spirit- may he soar… what a loved little kinfolk he was/is… thanks for sharing the love…
Thanks Kim 🥰
……..tears of gratitude for your family, who gave Zero a life full of love, kindness and excitement. Breathing into the space he has left behind, eyes closed in remembering, listening to the trees whispering, the birds singing…farewell Zero xx
Thanks Lisa 🙏🏽
My heart is with you.

I was thinking of your family today. We just lost our beloved Granddog, Brady. He was a Husky, and full of love. When we visited, he got so excited to go on walks. One day we will never forget is the day he stood on his hind legs and spun like a top for a walk. Again, he was a Husky!!! I think I will miss him forever. Sending hugs.
Thanks PermaG! …’miss him forever’… ❤️
